Do Nothing and Find Out

 

What would happen 
If the mother who lost a child
     In a school mass murder 
Were to come for revenge
       On the executives 
            Of the gun manufacturers?

What would happen 
If the father who lost a child
     Were to come 
          For the politicians
Who care more about their power
       And their backers 
            And the next election?

What would happen
If all peace loving citizens 
     Were to RISE UP 
          And demand action
By the men and women in blue
     Who are supposed to be protectin’?

What would happen 
If we lashed back at those in control
     Who continue to slaughter 
          Our brothers and our sisters,
               Our mothers and our fathers,
                   Our sons and our daughters?

What would happen 
If the viewers
     Were to hold accountable 
The purveyors of misinformation
     Who trade our lives 
     And our country
For the fame of their position?

What would happen
If our trusted officials
Were to persist to placate 
     With their thoughts 
	     And their prayers
While they aide and abet
     The forces of hate
           With their inaction?

What would happen
If our elected representatives
     Were to turn their backs
          Yet again
While our children die—
     While we collectively cry—
          In outrage, 
		Demanding change…
What would happen?
